Individual Therapy Services

I provide individual therapy for adults in Nashville and throughout Tennessee, with a focus on trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship and family-of-origin patterns, self-esteem, boundaries, and major life transitions.

Areas of Focus

Trauma and PTSD

Trauma may result from one overwhelming event or difficult experiences repeated over time. It can appear as distressing memories, emotional triggers, hypervigilance, numbness, shame, difficulty trusting, physical tension, or relationship patterns connected to the past.

Therapy can help you understand these responses with compassion and begin processing experiences that continue to affect your present life.

Anxiety and Chronic Stress

Anxiety may appear as constant worry, overthinking, tension, irritability, difficulty sleeping, or feeling that you must always anticipate what might go wrong.

Therapy can help you recognize triggers, regulate stress, respond more flexibly to uncertainty, and set healthier limits around responsibility.

Depression and Low Mood

Depression may involve exhaustion, irritability, loss of motivation, diminished pleasure, isolation, or persistent self-criticism.

Therapy can help you understand contributing patterns, develop greater self-compassion, and reconnect with meaningful activities and relationships.

Grief and Loss

People grieve deaths, relationships, health, identity, family expectations, missed opportunities, and the life they thought they would have.

Therapy provides a place to speak honestly about loss without pressure to move on or follow a particular timetable.

Relationship and Family-of-Origin Patterns

Early relationships can shape how we understand closeness, conflict, responsibility, safety, and self-worth.

Therapy may help with people-pleasing, conflict avoidance, fear of rejection, difficulty trusting, painful relationship patterns, and uncertainty about expressing needs. Exploring family-of-origin experiences is not about assigning blame. It is an opportunity to understand how patterns developed and decide which ones you want to carry forward.

Self-Esteem, Boundaries, and Recurring Patterns

Low self-esteem and difficulty with boundaries can lead you to minimize your needs, depend heavily on approval, take responsibility for other people’s emotions, or remain in familiar but painful situations.

Patterns sometimes described as self-sabotage often began as understandable attempts to protect yourself, avoid pain, or preserve connection. Therapy can help you approach them with curiosity and develop responses that better reflect your present needs.

Life Transitions

Therapy can provide support during career changes, relocation, marriage or divorce, parenthood, caregiving, health changes, aging, retirement, and shifts in identity, priorities, or purpose.

How I Work

My approach is individualized and integrative. Depending on your needs, therapy may include:

  • Supportive talk therapy to understand experiences and consider new perspectives

  • Relational and family-of-origin work to explore patterns in beliefs, emotions, boundaries, and choices

  • Grounding and emotional-regulation skills

  • Practical coping and communication strategies

  • EMDR, when appropriate

  • A holistic view of thoughts, emotions, physical responses, relationships, values, and spirit

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one approach I may use, when appropriate, to help clients process trauma and other distressing experiences that continue to affect emotions, beliefs, relationships, or physical responses in the present.

EMDR is integrated into therapy based on each client’s needs and goals rather than used as a one-size-fits-all approach.

01

The first session is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to therapy, what you hope may change, relevant history, current stress and support, and questions you have about the process. You do not need to tell your entire story during the first meeting.

What to Expect

Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your needs. Some may focus on present concerns or practical decisions; others may explore relationships, family experiences, grief, trauma, or long-standing beliefs. Therapy may be brief and focused or longer term, depending on your goals.
